Liquidmetal Expands Manufacturing and Corporate Team

Liquidmetal is excited to announce the addition of the following individuals to our Chinese Manufacturing and USA Corporate teams.  These key individuals will bring valuable insight to our growing operations and help shape the Company’s future in anticipation of the opportunities ahead.

Jianxin “Jack” Chen – Hangzhou Manufacturing, Director of Operations

Jack brings over 15 years of specialized expertise in amorphous alloy manufacturing. He serves as Director of Operations at our Hangzhou Manufacturing Plant. His pioneering work in amorphous materials spans process development, quality optimization, and production scale-up across multiple Fortune 500 manufacturers. Jack holds 17 patents in amorphous alloy technology and has co-authored three technical papers on amorphous materials. Most recently, Jack developed zirconium-based amorphous C-shaped springs for AI smart glasses hinges, now used by multiple Chinese smart glasses brands. His breakthrough achievements include developing a laser engraving process for amorphous alloy cutting that increased production efficiency by 300% while eliminating heat-affected zones and reducing post-processing costs.

Previously, Jack worked at BYD where he led the Motorola V3 phone back cover project, reducing costs by 30% and capturing 65% market share. In addition, he managed three workshops with 2,000 employees and developed cost-effective assembly equipment that improved yield by 2% and efficiency by 10%. He holds a Six Sigma Black Belt certification from BYD’s Motorola University, completed TRIZ problem-solving training, and earned his degree in Fine Chemical Engineering from Nanchang University.

‍Wantao Liu – Hangzhou Manufacturing, General Manager of Manufacturing

Wantao brings over eight years of specialized expertise in amorphous alloy manufacturing to our plant where he serves as General Manager. His deep understanding of amorphous materials spans process development and production scale-up.  Wantao holds two patents in amorphous alloy forming processes and demonstrated the breakthrough capability of mass-producing bulk amorphous materials in non-vacuum environment, a critical advancement for commercial viability. His technical problem-solving includes developing functional amorphous alloy springs by overcoming the material's inherent brittleness through optimized molding processes and improved gating systems.

Previously, he worked at Yihao Metal where he led the IATF16949 automotive quality certification that qualified the company for Samsung's supply chain. At Guming Technology,  he took over an idle CNC production line and restored operations and reduced delivery time by 30%, generating 1.3 million RMB in revenue within four months. At BYD, Wantao managed a 35-person team for tablet and set-top box products. He holds IATF16949 and CNAS system internal auditor certifications and received a degree in law at Gansu University.

Charles Kim – USA Corporate, Director IT infrastructure

Charles brings over 25 years of technology industry expertise focusing on automation and cloud-centric solutions that accelerate business growth and elevate customer experiences. His career spans early-stage startups to Fortune 500 enterprises where he has led and supported seven M&A initiatives as both an individual contributor and executive leadership team member. His expertise spans business, engineering, security, and information technology, with particular passion for engineering automation and advancing the safe and secure application of AI.

A recent project highlight involved applying machine learning to over a decade of historical company data, creating an AI-driven assistant capable of delivering actionable insights and context from the organization's entire history. This systematic approach to leveraging data demonstrates his ability to transform complex technical solutions into tangible business value. Charles is “self-taught” and is licensed as a (ISC)² CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), EC-Counsil CEH Certified Ethical Hacker, and AWS Cloud Solutions Architect & AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.

Scott Southall – USA Corporate, Marketing Director

Scott brings over three decades of technology and systems specializing in precision messaging that connects amorphous alloy capabilities directly to customer manufacturing challenges. With experience spanning software development, digital imaging, and marketing automation, Scott understands how to bridge technical complexity with business value. He leverages advanced AI technologies to create messaging strategies that address the specific hesitations and requirements of engineers evaluating amorphous alloy applications.

‍Scott's technical background includes pioneering early computer graphics applications and developing systematic approaches to communicating complex benefits to decision-makers across engineering and manufacturing teams. This foundation enables him to translate Liquidmetal's unique material properties into clear value propositions to customers in the medical device, consumer products and robotics industries. Scott holds a business degree in finance from Cal State Fullerton.
