Description

This case features a medical clamp application study, and a series of tests it went through to ensure performance and quality standards. Liquidmetal’s ability to return to its original shape following applied force made the material a perfect candidate for this application. Through several hundred cycles, the Liquidmetal clamp performed up to six times better than the original material.

A comparable steel solution would be expected to lose efficacy within 100 cycles, as the steel would yield and the clamp force would decrease. For this prototype design, a goal of at least 200 cycles without a decrease in the clamp force was specified. Liquidmetal performed a minimum of 636 cycles.
