    John Kang - Chairman

    John Kang is currently Chairman of Liquidmetal® Technologies. Since taking his position, he has guided the company from the development of the technology in the labs of California Institute of Technology to its successful commercialization of the technology.

    Prior to joining Liquidmetal Technologies, John was chairman of the board of directors of Clayton Group, Inc., a private company engaged in the distribution of waterworks equipment based in Tampa, Florida from 1988 to 1994. After that, John founded the predecessor to Medical Manager, an integrated healthcare automation solution which addresses the financial, administrative, clinical and practice management needs of healthcare providers. He guided the growth of the company from a small one-office business in 1995 to a corporation with more than 3,000 employees and more than 100 offices nationwide. He took Medical Manager Public in 1997. He continued to run the company as president and co-CEO through subsequent mergers and the ultimate sale of the company in September 2000.

    John received a B.A. in economics from Harvard College in 1985. John and his family reside in Southern California.

    William Johnson, Ph.D.

    William L. Johnson has been the Ruben and Donna Mettler Professor of Materials Science at Caltech since 1988 and a member of the Caltech faculty since 1977. He received his B.A. in physics from Hamilton College and his Ph.D. in applied physics from Caltech in 1974. He spent two years at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center (1975-77). He received a Von Humbolt Distinguished Scientist Fellowship and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Gottingen, Germany in 1983 and again in 1988. He is the 1995 recipient of the TMS/AIME Hume Rothery Award for his experimental work on crystal to glass transformations. Professor Johnson received the MRS Gold Medal in 1999 for his work on development of bulk metallic glasses. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2000. He is a Fellow of ASM International and was recently elected as a Fellow of TMS. Professor Johnson is author or co-author of over 380 publications in the scientific literature, and is an inventor on over 20 U.S. Patents. He has held numerous consulting positions for the Department of Energy, NASA, and corporations. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman for Technology for Liquid Metals Technology Corporation, a company devoted to the commercialization of bulk metallic glasses.

    Dean Tanella

    Dean G. Tanella has been a director since March 2004. A 20-year veteran of the institutional investment business, Mr. Tanella is President of HarborLight Capital Management, LLC, a Florida-based private wealth management firm. In addition, Mr. Tanella also currently serves as the Executive Vice-President of Capital Markets for GunnAllen Financial, Inc., a Florida-based independent brokerage firm with over 900 financial advisors in 32 states. From 1994-1999, Mr. Tanella served as Senior Managing Director for U.S and European Institutional Equity Sales for Raymond James & Associates, Inc. In addition to his Raymond James tenure, his prior Wall Street experience includes positions with such leading firms as CS First Boston Corp., Adams Harkness & Hill, Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc., Kidder Peabody & Co. and The Vanguard Group. He earned a bachelor degree with honors from Princeton University in 1983 and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1987.

    C.K.Cho

    C.K.Cho joins the Liquidmetal Board of Directors as the current Chief Executive Officer of Winvest Venture Partners Inc, a South Korea-based investment management firm. Prior to joining Winvest, Cho held various positions at Samsung Electronics over an 18-year tenure. As both a former general manager of purchasing for Samsung, and Chief of the International Procurement Office for Samsung Electronics America, where he managed a $700 million annual procurement budget, Cho has an extensive background in technology and manufacturing.

    Robert J. Biehl

    Robert J. Biehl, Founder and President of Masterplanning Group International, is a business consultant who has provided organizational and leadership advisory services to more than 2,500 executives since the inception of his company in 1976. He is the author of 20 published books on personal and organizational development and is a charter member of the board of directors of Focus on the Family. He graduated from Michigan State University (psychology major) in 1964, and he also received a Master’s Degree (counseling) from Michigan State in 1966.

    Patrick P. Caruana

    Patrick P. Caruana is a 36 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Lieutenant General, and a recently retired Vice President for Northrop Grumman Space Technology, a 29 billion dollar global defense enterprise. During his Air Force service he served in a full range of leadership and staff positions, including an air campaign planner and commander during the first Gulf War, directing the combat operations of twelve aircraft wings in six nations and the Indian Ocean. Mr. Caruana was also responsible for the oversight of several large development and procurement programs while supporting the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition at the Pentagon. He completed his military service in a capacity responsible for all of the space and missile operations of the U.S. Air Force at Air Force Space Command, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Caruana received a Master of Science degree in mathematics from Texas A&M University. Mr. Caruana is the former Northrop Grumman Corporate lead for Missile and space Defense business development in the Asia market, and he is currently a consultant with Northrop Grumman Space Technology.
